Oxford Preparatory School is moving forward with expansion plans for next year. April Abbott - Science Teacher

April Abbott has 11 years of teaching experience in Vance County. April obtained her Bachelors degree though The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2007 followed by her Masters Degree in 2017. April fully supports the schools vision and believes that college readiness is vital in today’s society.  She was a scholarship athlete in volleyball where she played collegiatly for 4 years at UNCP. After college graduation, she was head coach in several Vance County Schools for 6 years- including middle school and high school varsity and junior varsity teams. She joins OPS as a seventh grade science and Earth/Environmental Science teacher as well as Junior Varsity and Varsity volleyball coach. 

 

Christopher Allen - Math/Science Teacher

Christopher Allen graduated from Appalachian State University in May 2018 with a B.S. in physics. He has a wide range of experience working with students of all ages and is specifically focused on STEM outreach to the community. Christopher is also very passionate about the growing technological world and not only how teachers can apply technology to their lessons, but how students can learn to use the technology themselves. Christopher is very excited to be joining Oxford Preparatory High School this Fall, as he will be given the chance to do what he loves: teaching math. When not at school, you can probably find him working on other projects or playing video games.

 

Dustin Britt - Theatre Arts Teacher

Dustin Britt, a North Carolina native, is ecstatic to be welcomed into the Oxford Prep family. Dustin has taught for eight years at public, private, and charter schools across central North Carolina. He holds an M.A.Ed. in Learning Disabilities from East Carolina University and a B.S. in Deaf Education, with a minor in Anthropology, from UNC Greensboro.

Certified as an English and Social Studies teacher, Dustin enjoys examining the dramatic arts through a historical lens. He is particularly interested in Shakespeare, site-specific theatre, stage combat, and musical theatre. He has worked as a theatre professional for more than 20 years, including jobs as an award-winning actor and stage manager, playwright, marketer, set and lighting designer, vocalist, stage fighter, dancer, pianist, instructor, and published performing arts critic.

If he is not at school, he is probably at rehearsal. On the rare occasion that he cannot be found at either of those places, he is likely playing video games with his cat nearby.

  

Alexa Cook - EC Teacher

Alexa Cook will receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education, General Curriculum, in May 2018 from Appalachian State University. Alexa is excited to begin her teaching career at OPS in the Fall of 2018. She has experience working with individuals of all ages and abilities and is looking forward to joining the preparatory school community. Alexa has a passion for service, children, community, and learning. When she isn't teaching, you can find Alexa running or snuggled up with a book and a cup of coffee. 

 

Lynne Corbett - 6th Grade Social Studies & Science Teacher

Lynne Corbett joins Oxford Preparatory Schools as a 6th Grade teacher but is no stranger to the OPS family. Lynne’s oldest son Jason attended OPS for two years (currently at NCSSM) and her younger son Adam is a current freshman. She is a passionate supporter of the school’s vision and is excited to be a part of the new OPS Lower School. Lynne has 9 years’ experience teaching K-6 in Granville and Vance Counties.  Prior to obtaining her teaching certification through East Carolina University, Lynne was a Vice President for Bank of America in Charlotte, NC. She received a BA of Psychology from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

 

Cynthia Grissom-Young - Spanish Teacher

Having been an educator for twenty five years, Cynthia Grissom-Young is delighted to join the faculty of Oxford Preparatory as a Spanish teacher.  Mrs. Grissom-Young graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA in Spanish and obtained a teaching certificate, k-12 Spanish, from North Carolina Central University. Her teaching experience includes elementary Spanish at Mary Potter Intermediate School and Spanish I, II, III, and IV at JF Webb High School and Kerr-Vance Academy. She enjoys inspiring students to learn through fun engagement in rigorous work.

In addition to experience as a Spanish teacher, Mrs. Grissom-Young has worked in the NC community college system as a Dean of Arts and Sciences and as a Human Services instructor. She also served as a k-12 school counselor. Mrs. Grissom-Young has a Master’s in Education and a Education Specialist Certificate in Counseling from Seton Hall University. She looks forward to working with Oxford Prep students, including her son, Samuel, who is a rising freshman.

In her free time, she enjoys working on her hobby farm, taking care of the animals and growing vegetables and flowers. She also enjoys reading and a very good cup of coffee.

  

Christina Kostopoulos- School Counselor

Christina is originally from Long Island, NY. She holds her Masters of Education in School Counseling from Hunter College and her Bachelors of Science in English Education from New York University. In New York, she has worked as both a school counselor and a teacher for various grade levels. Christina is passionate for spreading awareness of the importance of mental health and is excited to join the Oxford team as an additional school counselor. When she is not working, Christina is taking a yoga class or writing poetry, her other two passions.

  

Tammy Pulliam - 6th Grade Math Teacher

Tammy Pulliam is a graduate of Meredith College and has been teaching for almost 17 years.  She has a passion for math and it is her favorite subject to teach.  When she is not teaching math, you can find her spending time with her daughter, husband, and their dog, Snowball!  

 

Mary Soriano - Spanish Teacher

 

Clarence White - EC Teacher

Clarence White was introduced to Oxford Preparatory School while teaching driver’s education courses. During that time, he took notice that the students demonstrated that they were driven to learn.

Clarence graduated from Warren County High School and North Carolina Agricultural State University, earning a degree in Agricultural Education. He also received certifications in special education, career exploration, vocational education, and driver education.

Clarence is honored to continue working with the entire Oxford Preparatory School family.
